So, they don’t have to look dirty or wierd to be on the street. They can have designer jean, be color coordinated, and branded totes. Open shoes. No jewelry. No tracks. A little thin, eh. Henna in her hair. Combed. Workers hat. Sign needs a little work. But, not all that bad for almost 10:00am on a Saturday morning in Burlington.
Put the old value judgment aside. She still be sitting on the street looking for handouts. Not a business plan she learned at Wharton.
“May I take your photo?”
“Am I photogenic?”
“I’d say so.”
“You gonna put me in a magazine or a newspaper.”
“I wish. Just going to put it on my website.”
She turned to a friend who had just delivered a second cup of coffee, “should I do this?”
“Its OK. Just something they do when you sit on the street.”
While we spoke, a street guy named Martin picked up my bottle of Perrier which I placed on the sidewalk to free my hands when I shot. “What are you doing?”
“The bottle has a deposit.”
“Can I take your picture?”
“Sure.”
I gaveĀ them both a dollar.
